🐘 The Friendship of the Elephant and the Mice 🐭

Long ago, near a beautiful forest, there stood an old abandoned village. The houses had crumbled with time, and the roads were covered with grass and dust. Although humans no longer lived there, the place had become a safe home for hundreds of mice. The mice had built small tunnels and nests in the broken walls and under the ground.

The mice lived peacefully in the quiet village. Every day they gathered food, played with one another, and helped their neighbors. Their community was well organized, and they respected their wise leader who guided them with fairness and care.

Not far from the village was a large forest where a herd of elephants lived. The elephants were powerful and majestic creatures led by a strong and intelligent king elephant. Every day the herd walked through the forest searching for food and water.

One summer, the forest became extremely dry. Rivers and ponds began to disappear, and the animals struggled to find water. The elephant king finally discovered a large lake far away that still had plenty of water.

To reach the lake, the elephants had to pass through the abandoned village where the mice lived.

The elephants walked heavily through the village streets. Because they were so large, their huge feet shook the ground with every step. Unfortunately, many small mice who were playing or resting nearby were crushed under the elephants’ feet.

The mice became frightened and sad. They knew that if the elephants continued walking through the village every day, many more mice would lose their lives.

The leader of the mice decided to speak with the elephant king. Gathering his courage, he walked toward the elephants when they arrived the next day.

Standing respectfully before the giant elephant, the tiny mouse said politely, “O mighty king of elephants, we know that you mean no harm. But your herd passes through our village every day on the way to the lake, and many of our people are being crushed under your feet.”

The elephant king looked down and listened carefully. He was surprised to hear this.

The mouse continued, “We are small creatures, but our lives are important to us just as yours are to you. If you could please choose another path to the lake, you would save many innocent lives.”

The elephant king was kind-hearted and wise. He realized that the mouse was speaking truthfully.

“I did not know that our path was causing such harm,” he said gently. “From today onward, we will choose another route to the lake. Your safety is important to us.”

The mice were extremely grateful. “Thank you, great king,” they said. “If you ever need our help, please remember that even small creatures can be useful friends.”

The elephant smiled at the thought but politely thanked them.

Some months later, a group of hunters entered the forest. They dug deep pits and set strong rope traps to capture elephants for the king of a distant land.

One unfortunate day, several elephants from the herd fell into the traps and were tied tightly with ropes. No matter how hard they struggled, they could not break free.

The elephant king remembered the mice and immediately sent a messenger to the abandoned village.

When the mice heard that their giant friends were in trouble, they rushed to the forest without hesitation. Hundreds of mice gathered around the trapped elephants.

Using their sharp teeth, the mice began biting through the thick ropes. Slowly but steadily, they chewed through the strong bindings.

After some time, the ropes broke and the elephants were finally free. The elephant king was deeply grateful.

He said warmly, “Today I learned that even the smallest friends can perform the greatest deeds.”

From that day forward, the elephants and the mice remained close friends. The forest animals often told their story as a reminder that kindness and friendship can exist between even the most different creatures.
