The Brahmin and the Crab Story
Long ago, in a peaceful village surrounded by green fields and flowing rivers, lived a kind and simple Brahmin. The Brahmin was known in the village for his honesty, wisdom, and gentle nature. People respected him because he always helped others and lived a life full of discipline and faith.
One summer morning, the Brahmin decided to visit a nearby town to perform a religious ceremony. The journey to the town was long, and the road passed through forests and quiet fields. Before leaving, his mother prepared some food and water for the journey.
As the Brahmin was about to leave, his mother said, “My son, the road you are taking is lonely and sometimes dangerous. You should not travel alone.”
The Brahmin smiled and replied, “Mother, do not worry. I will be careful and return safely.”
But the mother was still worried. She looked around and noticed a small crab near the water pot in the courtyard. She gently picked up the crab and placed it inside a small box filled with wet leaves.
Then she gave the box to her son and said, “Take this crab with you. Even a small companion can help in difficult times.”
The Brahmin laughed softly. He thought the idea sounded strange, but he respected his mother’s words. Without arguing, he placed the small box inside his bag and began his journey.
The Journey Through the Forest
The Brahmin walked for many hours under the hot sun. Birds were singing in the trees, and the wind moved gently through the tall grass. After some time, he reached a quiet forest area.
Feeling tired, the Brahmin decided to rest under a large shady tree. He placed his bag beside him and soon fell into a deep sleep.
However, danger was nearby.
A black snake lived in a hole near the roots of the tree. The snake slowly came out of its hole and started moving toward the Brahmin’s bag. Snakes are often attracted by the smell of food or movement.
The snake slipped inside the Brahmin’s bag and soon discovered the small box. Curious, it tried to open the box with its head.
As soon as the box opened slightly, the crab inside sensed danger. Crabs have strong claws, and they defend themselves quickly when attacked.
Without wasting a moment, the crab grabbed the snake’s neck tightly with its claws.
The Brave Crab
The snake tried to escape, twisting and moving violently, but the crab held on firmly. The fight continued inside the bag for several minutes. Finally, the crab’s grip became too strong, and the snake lost its strength.
Soon, the snake died.
After some time, the Brahmin woke up from his sleep. He stretched his arms and prepared to continue his journey. When he picked up his bag, he noticed something unusual inside.
Curious, he opened the bag and looked inside.
To his great surprise, he saw a dead snake and the small crab sitting quietly beside it.
At first, he could not understand what had happened. But after thinking for a moment, he realized the truth. The snake must have entered the bag while he was sleeping, and the crab had protected him by fighting the snake.
Understanding the Lesson
The Brahmin felt grateful and amazed. He gently picked up the crab and said, “Little friend, today you saved my life. I laughed when my mother asked me to take you with me, but now I understand her wisdom.”
He thanked the crab silently and continued his journey to the town. After completing his work, he returned home safely.
When he reached home, he told his mother everything that had happened on the journey. The mother smiled calmly and said, “My son, we should never underestimate anyone, no matter how small they are.”
The Brahmin nodded in agreement. That day he learned an important lesson about life and wisdom.
Moral of the Story
Never underestimate anyone. Even the smallest friend can become a great protector in difficult times.
From that day onward, the Brahmin always remembered the brave crab and the valuable advice of his mother. The story of the Brahmin and the Crab spread through the village and became a famous lesson for everyone.
