The Hermit and the Mouse Story
Long ago, deep inside a peaceful forest, there lived a wise hermit. The hermit had left the busy world behind and spent his days meditating, praying, and helping animals that lived in the forest. His small hut was made of bamboo and leaves, and it stood beside a quiet river where birds sang sweet songs every morning.
The hermit lived a very simple life. He ate fruits, roots, and vegetables that grew naturally in the forest. Animals of the forest trusted him because he never harmed anyone. Deer, rabbits, birds, and squirrels often visited his hut.
One day, while the hermit was sitting outside his hut and meditating, he heard a tiny sound. When he opened his eyes, he saw a small mouse running in fear. The mouse looked frightened and tired.
The hermit gently asked, “Little mouse, why are you so scared?”
The mouse replied in a trembling voice, “Holy sir, a cat is chasing me. I am very afraid that one day it will catch and eat me. Please help me.”
The hermit felt compassion for the small creature. He was known for his magical powers gained through years of meditation and spiritual practice. Wanting to help the mouse, he decided to change its form.
With his spiritual power, the hermit touched the mouse and said a prayer. In a moment, the tiny mouse turned into a cat.
The First Transformation
The mouse, now a cat, felt strong and fearless. It happily thanked the hermit and began living near the hut. The cat no longer feared other cats because it had become one of them.
However, after a few days, the cat returned to the hermit looking worried again.
The hermit asked, “What troubles you now?”
The cat replied, “Holy sir, I am now safe from cats, but dogs chase me. I am afraid of them. Please help me again.”
The hermit thought for a moment and then used his powers once more. Soon, the cat was transformed into a dog.
Now the animal was bigger and stronger. It roamed freely in the forest without fear of dogs.
More and More Power
But the story did not end there.
After some time, the dog returned once again with fear in its eyes.
The hermit asked kindly, “Why are you afraid again?”
The dog answered, “Holy sir, I am now a dog, but tigers scare me. If a tiger appears, I will surely be killed.”
The hermit sighed but decided to help once again. Using his spiritual power, he transformed the dog into a powerful tiger.
Now the animal became the strongest creature in the forest. All animals were afraid of the tiger. It walked proudly through the jungle, and no one dared to challenge it.
However, something slowly began to change inside the tiger’s mind.
The Tiger’s Arrogance
The tiger began to feel proud and arrogant. Instead of feeling grateful to the hermit, it started thinking about its power.
One day, the tiger heard some villagers talking near the forest. They said, “This tiger was once just a mouse. The hermit turned it into a powerful animal.”
Hearing this made the tiger angry. It felt ashamed that everyone knew its secret.
The tiger thought, “If the hermit is alive, people will always remember that I was once a mouse. I should remove him.”
With this evil thought, the tiger slowly walked toward the hermit's hut, planning to attack him.
But the hermit was wise and had great spiritual knowledge. As soon as the tiger came near, the hermit understood its intention.
The Final Lesson
The hermit calmly looked at the tiger and said, “You foolish creature! I gave you strength and protection, but you forgot gratitude. Instead, you became arrogant and cruel.”
Then the hermit raised his hand and spoke a powerful word.
In a moment, the tiger transformed back into a tiny mouse again.
The mouse stood there quietly, trembling with shame and fear. It realized its mistake but it was too late.
The hermit said gently, “Power without wisdom leads to arrogance. You must remember where you came from.”
The mouse slowly ran away into the forest, carrying the lesson for the rest of its life.
Moral of the Story
Never become arrogant because of power or success. Always remember your true origins and remain humble.
