✨ The Brahmin and the Goldsmith ✨

Long ago, in a busy town filled with merchants, craftsmen, and travelers, there lived a poor Brahmin named Dev Sharma. Dev Sharma was known for his honesty and simple lifestyle. He spent most of his days performing prayers, teaching sacred texts, and helping villagers with spiritual advice.

However, despite his wisdom and kindness, Dev Sharma lived in poverty. His small house had very few belongings, and he often struggled to meet his daily needs.

One day, fortune seemed to smile upon him.

While walking near the riverbank early in the morning, Dev Sharma noticed something shining in the sand. Curious, he bent down and discovered a beautiful gold ornament partly buried in the soil.

His eyes widened with surprise.

“This must be worth a great deal of money,” he thought.

But Dev Sharma was an honest man. He first looked around to see if someone had lost the ornament. After waiting for a long time and asking nearby villagers, he realized that no one claimed ownership of it.

Finally, he decided to take the ornament to the town’s goldsmith to learn its value.

The town’s most famous goldsmith was a clever man named Raghav. He was skilled at his work but also known for being greedy and cunning.

When Dev Sharma arrived at the goldsmith’s shop, Raghav greeted him politely.

“Welcome, respected Brahmin. How can I help you today?” he asked.

Dev Sharma showed him the golden ornament and said, “I found this near the river. I wish to know its value. If it is genuine, I may sell it to improve my humble life.”

Raghav examined the ornament carefully. The moment he saw it, he realized it was made of pure gold and was extremely valuable.

However, greed filled his mind.

“If I tell the Brahmin the truth, he will take it elsewhere and earn a fortune,” Raghav thought. “But if I trick him, I can buy it for almost nothing.”

He pretended to inspect the ornament with great seriousness. Then he shook his head slowly.

“I am afraid this ornament is not pure gold,” he said sadly. “It is only a cheap piece with very little value.”

Dev Sharma looked disappointed.

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“Yes,” Raghav replied confidently. “It may look shiny, but it is mostly made of mixed metals. Still, because you are a respected Brahmin, I can give you a few coins for it.”

The Brahmin felt uncertain. Something about the goldsmith’s words did not feel right. Instead of selling the ornament immediately, he decided to visit another goldsmith in a nearby town.

The next day, Dev Sharma traveled to the neighboring village and showed the ornament to another goldsmith named Mohan.

Mohan examined it carefully, and his face lit up with excitement.

“This is pure gold!” he exclaimed. “In fact, it is a beautifully crafted ornament. It is worth a large amount of money.”

Dev Sharma finally understood that Raghav had tried to cheat him.

However, instead of getting angry, he calmly sold the ornament to Mohan for a fair price. The money he received allowed him to repair his house and live comfortably.

Some weeks later, Dev Sharma returned to his own town. When Raghav saw him walking happily through the market, he became curious.

“Did you sell that worthless ornament?” Raghav asked with a sly smile.

Dev Sharma replied peacefully, “Yes, I did. Another goldsmith recognized its true value and paid me generously.”

Raghav’s face turned pale. He realized that his greed had caused him to lose a great opportunity.

The townspeople soon heard about the incident. They began to doubt Raghav’s honesty and slowly stopped trusting him with their gold and jewelry.

Meanwhile, Dev Sharma’s reputation for wisdom and patience grew even stronger.

The story spread through the town as a lesson about honesty and greed. While Dev Sharma gained respect and comfort, Raghav’s deceit damaged his reputation forever.
